When the air is cool is dry and the sun hides behind grey Won’t you meet me where we played as kids, where our secrets hide away Maybe we’ll light a fire and curl up within its glow Funny how reflections make your smile show Oh my love Oh my love We swore we’d always be together until the bitter end We’d go to the same places and keep the same old friends Times went by and we lost touch, it sure has been a sin The biggest one of all is that I can’t see you again Oh my love Oh my love Oh my love Oh my love You know that I want you here My world just ain’t the same When I go downtown tonight I know I’ve got No one else to blame We swore we’d always be together until the bitter end We’d go to the same places and keep the same old friends Times went by and we lost touch, it sure has been a sin The biggest one of all is that I can’t see you again Oh my love Oh my love Oh my love Oh my love

Swamp Man 03:49
I came into this world as a swamp man, and I’m leaving this world exactly the same. Learning nothing, leaving nothing but the good days behind me That’s me, yours truly You came into this world as a spinstress, born and raised to captivate the few. Those of us, left behind to worry about the good days Now it’s just me, yours truly Life isn’t as short as you may think, my dear Though I know I make it feel that way You question why I don’t write you songs anymore I guess I just don’t have anything to say Or maybe its just that I am happy for the first time in a long, long day We came into this world as tiny little spiders, dangling on the tiny see-through web And if you look closely you can still see us spinning Dancing with the mysteries in your head. Life isn’t as short as you may think, my dear Though I know I make it feel that way You question why I don’t write you songs anymore I guess I just don’t have anything to say Or maybe its just that I am happy for the first time in a long, long day

Summer Breeze Swallowtail Moonshine Too Frail Colors Blend The Mind Sees Waterfalls Willow Trees We sail across the sea Because we long to be We ride across these states Because we just can’t wait We want to be With the ones we love And we can’t be stopped by Hell or Heaven up above Player Piano Follow Boxcars Build a home Hide your scars Don’t give up too soon Don’t start too late Some think it’s up to them You’re sure it’s up to fate We sail across the sea Because we long to be We ride across these states Because we just can’t wait We want to be With the ones we love And we can’t be stopped by Hell or Heaven up above If there’s no road ahead How am i supposed to find you? If there’s no hand to lend This may be the end for us too. Don’t give up too soon Don’t start too late Some think it’s up to them You’re sure it’s up to fate We sail across the sea Because we long to be We ride across these states Because we just can’t wait We want to be With the ones we love And we can’t be stopped by Hell or Heaven up above

Where do we come from where do we go I’m just a human – bits of mud, sleet, and snow I think it's stranger that we’re anything than if we were nothing at all Because nothing makes sense, though intangible. Anything I guess is beautiful. I’m all about making your own time But I don’t even understand how can these words rhyme They’re just words, which are letters, which are scribbled down lines I want to know why Is it all a lie? Illusions to fill up the space? Why do I try to run so fast like the sun and I are in a race? Where do I go when I die? Does my time matter in this place? I think that it does, but I have yet to prove my case I’m all about making your own time But I don’t even understand how can these words rhyme They’re just words, which are letters, which are scribbled down lines I want to know why

Oh I love you and I know just what to do. I’ll pull up a chair, let down my hair, and sing a song just for you. Are you always going to want me, just like I want you? Will we end up together? Let’s try it, please let’s do. When we get old, and I lose my hair - though my eyes will stay as blue Will we still love each other or will I forget you too? Love, that’s love, what is love, is this true? I’m in love for the first time and I’m giving all my love to you. I’m never ever going to forget The promises that we’ve made That this first time will be different That we have a love that can stay Even though in one year it’ll be over We’ll both go our separate ways A part of me will still be here Recreating the feeling of this day – in replay Love, that’s love, what is love, is this true? I’m in love for the first time and I’m giving all my love to you.

Yes I Do 03:20
Yes I’ve seen the country and yes it's pretty plain And yes I’ve seen the master, but I ain’t gonna tell you his name That’s just how I’m feeling Why don’t you feel the same? Well, yes yes I do Yes yes I do Yes yes I do Yes yes I do I had a dream once Hop that greyhound bus and ride Yes I had a dream once to hop that greyhound bus and ride But just like my love for you that dream had to go and die Yes yes I do Yes yes I do Yes yes I do Yes yes I do

So we’re about to tie the knot and I could not be happier We’re about to be hitched and that’s grand But there’s one thing I have to know before we’re locked together One thing I have to know before I take your hand Will you love me always and forever Will you laugh with me until the cows come home Can we sit by the fire and warm our feet together And dance with me beneath the silvery moon Now my buddy’s got a girl and he thinks that she’s the greatest But boy I am sure that he is wrong Cause I got the sweetest girl in creation And I’ll always be the one to take her home I’ll admit that I’m a little bit scared And maybe I want to run and hide But when I picture us together, you know that I’m sure, yes I’m sure everything is gonna be alright Will you love me always and forever Will you laugh with me until the cows come home Can we sit by the fire and warm our feet together And dance with me beneath the silvery moon

Getting lost in the shadows, crying out for you I thought I knew just what I was supposed to do. Get a job, find a girl – be reliable through and through. No one ever told me the pain that I could cause you. Torn and tumbling lying in pieces on the ground God grant me the serenity to live this happening down Packed my bags this morning, went to catch the greyhound in the fog I asked the driver “where can I go?” he said “boy, you can go anywhere you want.” The world is flat and getting flatter, I can’t believe what Imma do Mama don’t you cry no more, I never meant to hurt you. Torn and tumbling lying in pieces on the ground God grant me the serenity to live this happening down You know I’ve gotta travel, been that way since 1989 Can’t sit still I’ve got to ramble til I reach my place at the end of the line Torn and tumbling lying in pieces on the ground God grant me the serenity to live this happening down

When we were strangers I didn’t know, but how could I have known, That I would miss your pretty face every single day I know you don’t understand If I never met you baby, it sure would be a sin The people on the street call out to me now Saying “go out to the brickyard and start building up your pile” I know they don’t understand If I never met you baby, it sure would be a sin When it’s time for leaving Gotta go to work Though I want to be with you darling like nowhere else on earth You know my love that I’m with you til the end Gonna stick together through thick and thin, yeah Now that we’re together, never gonna part Now that we’re together love you’re always in my heart Even I don’t understand If I never met you baby, it sure would be a sin When it’s time for leaving Gotta go to work Though I want to be with you darling like nowhere else on earth You know my love that I’m with you til the end Gonna stick together through thick and thin, yeah Now that we’re together, never gonna part Now that we’re together love you’re always in my heart Even I don’t understand If I never met you baby, it sure would be a sin

about

These are a collection of songs I wrote between 2010 and 2019. The oldest track is Scribbled Down Lines - I wrote it when I was studying abroad in Norwich, UK in the spring of 2010. A lot changed in my life over the decade. I graduated from Dickinson College, started teaching at the local high school, got married, and welcomed my son, Beau, into the world. These songs are mostly about love, change, and the urge to understand my place and purpose.

All music and lyrics written and performed by James Wilkinson.

I'd like to thank a lot of people who made this possible. My parents, who always supported my music and bought me many instruments over the years. My wife, Molly, who was the inspiration behind many of these songs. My son, Beau, for taking naps every now and then so I could record. My friend and bandmate, Bruce, for bringing out the best in me and my music. My CHS Coffeehouse partners Sue and Grayson, who took me in and let me be part of a wonderful, student centered organization like the Coffeehouse. My many other part-time bandmates over the years. Thank you all.
